What is Trigonocephaly?

An infant skull is not one big circular bone. Rather, it is pieced together like a jigsaw puzzle. It's quite a marvel of design really. The flexible sutures allow infants to pass through the birth canal and allow for rapid growth early in life. When one of those sutures fuses prematurely, it can result in craniosynostosis. In our case, the metopic suture has closed resulting in trigonocephaly from metopic synostosis. Due to the forehead (metopic) suture closing, Robby's skull can not grow in the front region. As the rest of the skull grows, his head has taken on a triangular appearance. A corrective procedure (CVR: Cranial Vault Remodeling) must be done to correct this deformity and allow room for his brain to grow.
